Bruno Fernandes Commits to Man Utd as Barcelona Withdraw from Godts Race
Bruno Fernandes Stays at Man Utd; Barcelona Exit Godts Race

Manchester United are preparing for another significant summer of transformation at Old Trafford, as the club looks to build on a promising conclusion to the current season. The Red Devils have experienced a turbulent campaign, marked by a dismal run of form under former manager Ruben Amorim. However, results have improved since Michael Carrick took over as interim manager.

Fernandes Opens Up on Future

Bruno Fernandes has provided his strongest indication yet that his future remains at Old Trafford. Last summer, the 31-year-old was linked with a move to Al-Hilal, with the Saudi Pro League club reportedly willing to pay a staggering £200 million for his signature. However, the United captain rejected that move and has since delivered what is widely considered his most impressive campaign since joining the club in 2020.

Fernandes has now reaffirmed his commitment to the club, insisting that no other team shares the same special connection he has with United. Speaking to Gary Neville on Sky Sports, he said: "It's not a question of loyalty. I could have gone two years ago, I could have gone three years ago, I could have gone last season, but I really like to be here."

He added: "I think that being successful at this club is something that I can never get at another club. The joy and everything I get, the day I get what I want from this club, I don't think I will get that from any other club in the world. I know how much the fans want this, I know how passionate they are. I know how much they are waiting for the club to come back again. I'm on the same ship as them. I want this ship; instead of being steady, I want it to go forward and to navigate as much as we can."

Fernandes concluded: "Yeah, I won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup [but] what this club wants, what these fans want and what I want, myself and the team, we haven't got that yet. Until my contract expires, I'm going to try."

Barcelona Drop Out of Transfer Race

Reports in Spain have suggested that Barcelona have withdrawn from the race to sign young Ajax winger Mika Godts. The 20-year-old Belgian has been in impressive form for the Dutch club this season, registering 17 goals and 11 assists so far this campaign, sparking interest from major clubs across Europe.

United are among the clubs linked with his services, alongside Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City. However, Spanish outlet Marca has reported that Barcelona will not pursue a move for the youngster, with the club said to be keen to bring in someone "with much more experience."

The Catalan outfit currently have United forward Marcus Rashford playing in the left-wing role this season, with the England international registering an impressive 13 goals and 14 assists for the club. Barcelona have an agreement in place that would allow them to make his loan move permanent for a fee of £26 million, although there are question marks over whether they will exercise that option ahead of the summer window.

United face several priorities this summer, including appointing a permanent manager and strengthening the squad. The club is likely to target at least two midfielders, while the left-back and left-wing positions are also under consideration. With Barcelona dropping out of the race for Godts, United may have a clearer path to signing the Ajax star.
