Former Sunrise presenter David 'Kochie' Koch has announced a delightful family milestone, becoming a grandfather for the tenth time.
A Joyful Announcement from Marrakech
The 69-year-old broadcaster took to Instagram on Wednesday to share the happy news that his son, AJ Koch, and daughter-in-law, Carolina Flores, had welcomed their second child. He confirmed the birth of a baby girl, Valentina Rose Koch.
Sharing an adorable picture of the newborn, Koch penned a characteristically warm and humorous message. "A big welcome to grandchild Valentina Rose Koch," he wrote. "And there is no truth to the rumour she was named after her parent’s favourite hot sauce."
He also noted how special it was that the baby's Mexican grandparents, Pepe and Laura, were able to be in Australia for the arrival. Koch revealed he and his wife Libby were celebrating the news while travelling, stating: "Libby and I toasted the birth in Marrakech at Aussie owned Plus61... which provided a great break from all the tagines we’ve eaten."
Growing Family Traditions
AJ and Carolina, who married in Mexico in 2019, welcomed their first daughter, Catalina May, in 2021. The Koch family is now a bustling clan, with David and Libby's other children—daughters Brianna, Georgie, and Samantha—also adding to the next generation.
This birth follows closely on the heels of another recent addition. In October last year, Koch's youngest daughter, Georgie, and her husband Alex Merkel, who reside in London, welcomed their first child—a daughter named Heidi. That birth marked Koch's ninth grandchild.
At the time, David shared a heartfelt photo of his wife meeting baby Heidi for the first time in London, gushing about the moment. He had previously announced Georgie's pregnancy live on The Morning Show in April 2023, sharing a sweet family tradition.
A Sweet Family Ritual
During that television appearance, Koch explained the sentimental custom he and Libby uphold for each new arrival. "We have a family tradition, we buy the first pram for each of the families," he told hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.
He expressed his excitement about the then-upcoming birth, his ninth grandchild, highlighting the personal touch they add to every new chapter in their expanding family tree.
