Reality television star and singer Kandi Burruss has candidly discussed the end of her 11-year marriage to producer Todd Tucker, revealing that while the news shocked many, she had sensed the separation was imminent for some time.
An Emotional Admission During a Holiday Promotion
The 49-year-old Grammy winner from College Park, Georgia, got personal during an Amazon Live segment on Monday. While the primary purpose was to promote her online store, The Kandi Shop, the conversation quickly turned to her personal life. Burruss admitted she is navigating a 'pretty crazy time' as her marital breakdown coincides with the start of the holiday season.
'I'm gonna be very honest with you - I am up and down,' Kandi told viewers. 'Obviously, going through a divorce is definitely not the easiest thing.' She described her emotional state as 'all over the place' and confessed that she often alters her daily routine to distract herself from the pain.
Putting on a Brave Face for the World
Burruss, a former cast member of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, explained that despite her public appearances of happiness, her marriage had been deteriorating behind the scenes. 'So all the times you've been seeing me online [looking happy] means nothing,' she stated. 'I've been going through it, child, I've been going through it - life has been life-ing me.'
She also touched upon her astrological sign, Taurus, as a reason for her private grieving process. 'Sometimes you have your moments of sadness,' Kandi said. 'And me being the Taurus that I am, I like to keep those moments to myself.' She contrasted this with her time on the reality show, where her emotions were more publicly displayed.
Co-Parenting and Moving Forward Amicably
The couple, who share two children—son Ace, nine, and daughter Blaze, six—are prioritising their family. Burruss confirmed that she and Tucker are 'keeping it very friendly' for the sake of their children.
In a significant show of unity, they plan to spend Thanksgiving together to maintain a sense of normalcy. This follows their recent joint appearance at their daughter Blaze's birthday party. 'We are gonna continue to keep that same good energy going for our kids - that is our goal,' Burruss affirmed, adding that her children are 'doing well' amidst the difficult circumstances.
The filing for divorce was made less than a week before her Amazon Live appearance, marking a painful but anticipated new chapter for the television personality.
