A 23-year-old German travel blogger who claims to have visited every country in the world has named Egypt as the 'most annoying' destination for tourists. Luca Pferdmenges, who has amassed 2.9 million followers on social media, shared his controversial opinions in an interview with the Daily Mail.
Overrated destinations
Pferdmenges listed Egypt, France, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, and most of the Caribbean Lesser Antilles as 'overrated'. He described the Caribbean as 'super-overrated' and said these places are 'often very touristy and often don’t have much besides pretty beaches'. He specifically singled out Egypt, stating: 'Egypt is the most annoying country for tourists in my opinion.'
Underrated gems
In contrast, he praised several Baltic countries, Uzbekistan, Myanmar, and most Latin American nations as 'underrated'. He noted that countries people 'forget exist' are often 'way more exciting and more affordable' than classic destinations. Bhutan and Myanmar were described as 'really unknown' and 'some of the prettiest countries in the world'.
Fan backlash
Many of Luca’s fans on his thegermantravelguy channel were annoyed by his assessment of Egypt, claiming he 'must have visited the wrong places'.
Dangerous European destinations
When asked about the most dangerous European country, Pferdmenges named Belgium, saying it feels 'super unsafe' at night and branding it as 'pretty ugly' and 'grey'. He also mentioned Paris, London, and Frankfurt as more dangerous cities. He advised holidaymakers to avoid France, Italy, and Greece, explaining that there are '40 other countries worth being explored' across Europe. He highlighted Montenegro and Slovenia as 'some of the most beautiful countries in the world – and cheap – but nobody visits them'.
Favorite destinations
Pferdmenges does not have a single favorite country but listed nine top travel destinations: Mexico, Brazil, Israel, Spain, Bhutan, the UK, the UAE, Portugal, and Austria. His favorite city in Europe is Lisbon, Portugal. In a TikTok video, he said: 'It’s honestly so gorgeous. I honestly love Lisbon, I was thinking of moving here at some point but not at the moment. I love coming back here and trying all of the vegan Portuguese food like vegan pastel de nata. It’s one of my favorite cities, maybe my favorite city in Europe, Lisbon, it’s gorgeous and has everything you need.'
