Australian actress Isabel Lucas, best known for her role in Home and Away, has shared a highly unusual story about her postpartum experience following the birth of her first child. The 41-year-old star welcomed a baby boy named Archer in December with her American partner, film director Cyrus Sutton, and recently took to Instagram to detail a unique ritual involving the placenta.

In a heartfelt post on Sunday, Lucas recounted how she and Sutton buried the placenta under a small hoop pine tree on their property in Byron Bay. She described the tree as their Christmas tree, chosen by her mother for its pleasant scent and modest size, though she humorously noted that it might eventually grow up to 60 metres tall. The actress explained that this act was intended as a meaningful gesture of closure and connection.
'We wanted to honour the life giver and mark the threshold,' Lucas wrote. 'The earth nourished the mother, the mother nourished the baby, and so in reciprocity the placenta returns to the earth. It felt like closure, a living prayer connecting him to his birth soil, his home and family, honouring that his roots stretch far beyond this place.'

Alongside the story, Lucas shared a video clip of the burial process, as well as images showcasing her baby bump during pregnancy. She also expressed her joy over becoming a mother, writing: 'Archer... our source of delight and joy. Our little beloved is filling our days with a purity of love that keeps growing.' The post was met with an outpouring of congratulations from fans, with one commenting: 'Congratulations. How gorgeous. You will be a great mum,' reflecting the supportive sentiments of many.
Lucas first announced Archer's birth in December with a sweet Instagram photo of the newborn's foot cradled in his father's hand.
