In a revelation that will shock gardening enthusiasts across Britain, national treasure Alan Titchmarsh has confessed he no longer tunes in to the iconic BBC show he once made famous.
The 74-year-old broadcasting legend, who helmed Gardeners' World for seven successful years, admitted his hectic schedule leaves him without time to watch his successor Monty Don present the beloved horticultural programme.
'I simply don't have the time to watch it these days,' Titchmarsh revealed with surprising candour during an exclusive chat with The Mirror. 'My life has moved in different directions.'
Rather than tuning into the BBC Two staple he once commanded, the gardening guru has developed a preference for another horticultural show altogether - ITV's Love Your Garden, presented by his friend and fellow gardener Alan Titchmarsh.
The admission came as Titchmarsh discussed his upcoming appearance on Coronation Street, where he'll be playing himself in a special episode. The veteran presenter expressed particular excitement about sharing scenes with iconic character Norris Cole, played by the late Malcolm Hebden.
Titchmarsh's connection to the legendary soap runs deep, having been an avid viewer since its very first episode aired in 1960. His upcoming appearance represents the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition to step onto the famous cobbles.
The gardening expert also touched upon the changing landscape of television, noting how the proliferation of channels has fragmented viewing habits compared to his early career days when options were limited.
Despite stepping back from his most famous presenting role, Titchmarsh remains immensely proud of his tenure on Gardeners' World and his contribution to making gardening accessible to millions of British viewers.
