Australian television presenter Brooke Boney has made a triumphant return to the Channel Nine breakfast programme, the Today show, following the successful completion of her postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford.
A Warm Welcome Back to Australian Television
The 38-year-old journalist, who had been absent from the popular morning broadcast since September last year, was greeted with open arms by her colleagues upon her return on Friday. Hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo immediately offered their congratulations for her significant academic achievement.
After a heartfelt tribute from the presenting duo, Brooke was welcomed with genuine hugs before taking her seat to discuss her time abroad. 'It’s nice to be home!' she exclaimed, reflecting on her experience. 'I just had the best time, it was so different from what I expected, but amazing in all the best ways.'
Surpassing Academic Expectations at a Prestigious University
Brooke revealed that she had excelled in subjects she had not anticipated, surpassing her own expectations during her course. 'I was good at the things I was not expecting,' she shared with the audience.
She proudly announced that her strongest performances were in economics and law, and she even managed to secure a distinction for her research, which is the highest possible mark one can achieve. This stellar result came after she confessed to having initial doubts about making such a significant life change.
'You do have those doubts when you go in to do something new, you’ve never sort of experienced it before,' Brooke admitted, noting that she hadn't studied for nearly two decades. She also addressed the sceptics, referencing comments such as, 'Oh, did you get in on merit?' or suggestions of a 'secret pathway for Today show hosts to go to Oxford.'
Future Plans and a Change of Routine
With her Masters of Public Policy now complete, Karl Stefanovic directly asked if she would be open to a permanent return to Channel Nine. Brooke's response was immediate and jovial.
'Are you kidding?' she laughed. 'Look how healthy I am. I don't have to wake up at a quarter-past three.' This light-hearted comment highlighted one of the undeniable benefits of stepping away from the gruelling schedule of a breakfast television host.
Her journey to Oxford began in September of the previous year when she shared her excitement about the move on social media. She posted a beaming snapshot from her first day and a selfie from the esteemed St Antony's College, captioning it with a simple, 'eeeek' to convey her thrill at the enormous life change.
