Bus Set Ablaze During Celebrations
A World Cup shuttle bus was set on fire as the celebrations got out of hand in Manhattan, according to a Reuters video journalist at the scene. One of the yellow school buses hired by the city government to transport football fans was set ablaze. Police reported that a 17-year-old was shot in the foot in Times Square as the celebrations spiraled in the early hours of the morning. Three people of interest were taken into custody.
Police Intervention
Police fenced off some streets and after holding back for about two hours, officers in riot gear moved in chasing fans down the streets. Some officers on horseback pushed crowds back, clearing streets around Madison Square Garden, the Knicks' home court.
Knicks' Historic Victory
The Knicks beat the Spurs 94-90 in game five in San Antonio on Saturday, sealing a 4-1 Finals victory and their first NBA title since 1973. They were cheered on by a host of celebrity superfans in Texas including Timothee Chalamet, Ben Stiller, Spike Lee, Sydney Sweeney, Tracy Morgan and John Turturro, while the Duke of Sussex was also in attendance.
Star Performance
Star point guard Jalen Brunson scored 45 points on his way to being named Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) as the Knicks came back from a double-digit deficit again to lift the Larry O'Brien Trophy for the third time in franchise history.
