Two boys have been arrested and a man is fighting for his life in hospital following a serious assault in Newcastle city centre. Northumbria Police received a report that a man was riding a bicycle on Claremont Road at 5:10 pm on Thursday when he was approached by two people on a moped.
One of the individuals on the moped pushed the man from his bike, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim, aged in his 50s, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
Arrests Made
Police launched an investigation and later arrested two boys, aged 16 and 14, at Walker Park off Scrogg Road in Newcastle. They are being held in custody on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
A section of Claremont Road remains closed to traffic, and part of Walker Park is also cordoned off as officers conduct enquiries. Authorities are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who was in the Claremont Road area shortly after 5 pm or who may have dash cam footage.
