Police are investigating a dangerous incident on a major Welsh road where rocks were thrown at a car from a bridge, smashing the windscreen. The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 3, at around 4:45 pm on the A465 in Neath.
Driver's account
The driver, Ryan Brettle-Jones, was traveling at approximately 70 mph when two individuals threw objects from the bridge crossing over to Neath College. The impact shattered the windscreen and scattered glass throughout the vehicle. Ryan shared images of the damage on social media, expressing shock at the incident.
Ryan's three-year-old daughter Lily, who has a rare genetic condition, was not in the car at the time. Lily was diagnosed with the WT1 gene mutation, which can cause childhood kidney and urogenital cancers, as well as severe kidney and reproductive disorders. She is currently on dialysis and awaiting a kidney transplant.
Impact on family
Ryan stated that the damage to his car has prevented him from driving Lily to hospital appointments in Cardiff, as he had been doing regularly. He expressed relief that his daughter was not in the vehicle, but frustration that the car is now out of action.
Police response
A South Wales Police spokesman confirmed they were called at 5:30 pm to the A465 Neath Interchange regarding objects being thrown from the bridge. Investigations are ongoing, and no injuries have been reported. Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
