Violent riots erupted in Belfast on Wednesday evening following a stabbing attack in the city earlier this week. Protesters set fire to a Glider bus on the Newtownards Road in east Belfast during an anti-immigration demonstration.
Protest Details
The demonstration was organised in response to Monday night's stabbing incident. Around 100 supporters of far-right activist Tommy Robinson gathered in Parliament Square, demanding that police officers take the knee. Robinson, who has been boosted by Elon Musk, issued a rallying cry on social media, stating: 'The whole of the United Kingdom is hitting the streets tonight following yet another invader attack on our people.'
Far-Right Groups Mobilise
A group calling themselves the South London Patriots, some wearing Chelsea football shirts, were seen drinking beer and carrying an AI-generated poster. They expressed a desire to 'get their country back.' Answering Robinson's call, they confronted a line of police officers, leading to minor pushing and shoving by 8.30pm. The crowd shouted 'traitor' and 'we love you Henry' in honour of Henry Nowak, who was stabbed to death in Southampton.
The riots come amid heightened tensions following the stabbing attack. A 30-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident. The hero who intervened during the stabbing, using an Irish hurley stick to strike the knifeman, has been identified as a local father.
