A man riding an illegally modified E-bike through the streets of a Cardiff suburb was stopped by officers, but that was just the start of his problems. More of Jason Seward's crimes were quickly exposed after he was stopped by plain-clothed officers who were patrolling in Ely.
Arrest and Search
He was arrested and searched after they caught him riding the illegal E-bike. During the search, officers discovered six bags of cocaine and almost £600 in cash. The 31-year-old was subsequently arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He pleaded guilty to the offence.
Sentencing
Seward was sentenced to five years and seven months in prison during a hearing at Swansea Crown Court on June 4. South Wales Police highlighted the case as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle drug dealing and criminal activity in communities across Cardiff.
Proactive Policing
The force said the arrest came as a result of proactive policing by officers conducting plain-clothed patrols in the Ely area. South Wales Police is also cracking down on illegal E-bike use. As part of an operation with Cardiff Council, more than 700 illegal mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) have been seized and destroyed since last summer.
