Girl, 14, arrested after Manchester school stabbing

Two students and a staff member were injured in a stabbing at a Manchester school on Tuesday, June 9. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrested a 14-year-old girl in connection with the attack at Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road, Blackley.

Incident Details

Staff at the school quickly detained the girl, and the school went into lockdown. Students were sent home as a large emergency services presence descended on the area. Police have launched an investigation.

The injured include a 14-year-old schoolgirl, a 14-year-old schoolboy, and a 27-year-old male staff member. All were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be serious. According to the Manchester Evening News, the staff member was stabbed in the neck, the girl suffered knife injuries to her shoulder, and the boy sustained injuries to his ear.

Arrest and Investigation

The 14-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and remains in custody for questioning. Police have stated they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Headteacher Phill Quirk confirmed the school would remain closed for the rest of the day, adding, "We can confirm that everyone is safe and the incident has been contained."

Chief Inspector Jon Shilvock said: "We understand that this incident will have caused concern to pupils, staff and the wider school community. The incident was swiftly and quickly dealt with by staff before officers attended to arrest the girl. There is believed to be no wider threat at this time."

Officers will remain at the school and in the area to provide a visible presence and community reassurance.
