The family of a 13-year-old schoolgirl who tragically died after going missing in a Yorkshire river have described her as having a 'bright future ahead of her'. Palwasha Akbar was reported missing on Sunday, May 31, and her body was later recovered from the River Wharfe near Burnsall, North Yorkshire.
Family tributes
Her family has paid a heartfelt tribute and launched a Go Fund Me appeal in her memory. They described Palwasha as a 'bright, kind, and caring 13-year-old girl whose tragic passing has left her family, friends, school, and community heartbroken.'
'Palwasha loved reading, spending time with her friends, and bringing happiness to those around her,' the family said. 'She was a hardworking student with a warm smile, a gentle nature, and a caring heart. She had a bright future ahead of her and touched the lives of so many people through her kindness and positivity.'
Fundraising for charity
In memory of Palwasha, the family is raising funds to support charitable causes that reflect her values: kindness, compassion, and helping others. 'Through this fundraiser, we hope to create something positive and lasting in her name, ensuring that her memory continues to make a difference in the lives of others,' they added.
The family thanked donors for their support, saying: 'Thank you for helping us remember a beautiful young girl who was taken far too soon but will never be forgotten.'
School's tribute
Palwasha was a pupil at Bronte Girls' Secondary Academy. The school described her as a valued and much-loved student, remembered for her 'compassion and willingness to go above and beyond to help others.'
An inquest into her death is expected to open at Northallerton coroner's court on June 18.
