A 50-year-old man has died and two other people are fighting for their lives following a serious road traffic collision in Dumfries and Galloway. The incident, which involved a black Vauxhall Vectra and a white Citroen Dispatch, took place at approximately 7:35pm on Saturday evening.
Emergency Response
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on the A709 Dumfries to Lockerbie road, near Lochfield, Lochmaben. Paramedics and police officers provided immediate assistance to the three casualties, who were all transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities later confirmed that the driver of the Vauxhall, a 50-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. The other two victims, a 67-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman who were travelling in the Citroen, remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Investigation Underway
Crash scene investigators closed the roadway for approximately eight hours to allow for a thorough examination of the site. The A709 was officially reopened to traffic at around 3:30am on Sunday morning.
Sergeant Wayne Carnochan expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged anyone with information to come forward. He stated: 'Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died at this time. Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything around this time to contact us. In addition, anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist.'
Police Scotland have launched a full investigation into the crash and are actively seeking information from the public. They are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision or who has dash-cam footage of the incident.
