GB News was forced to interrupt its Monday programme as air raid sirens were reported in Tel Aviv, Israel. Home and Security Editor Mark White broke the news, halting the show to provide a live update on the escalating situation.
Breaking News Update
White stated: 'Ok, just before we cross to newspapers, we want to bring you an update again on the situation in Israel. Hopefully we've got images of Tel Aviv live this morning, where the sirens have just sounded.' As the network aired a chilling audio clip of the sirens, he continued: 'If you just have a listen to this, this is the sirens sounding just a minute ago. So the air raid sirens are sounding there over Tel Aviv, central Israel and also northern Israel [because of] incoming ballistic missiles from Iran as yet another wave has come in.'
Third Wave of Attacks
White explained that this marked the third wave of ballistic missile attacks that morning, following two earlier waves and several more overnight. He described the ongoing strikes as 'a worrying indication of where we might be headed in terms of retaliatory strikes.'
The development comes after a ceasefire agreed upon in April collapsed, with Iran launching a barrage of missiles at Israel on Sunday evening. Most were intercepted, but Israel retaliated by targeting multiple locations, including a petrochemical complex in southwestern Iran.
Official Statements
The Israeli military issued a statement: 'A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat.' The statement added: 'In the past few minutes, the Home Front Command has sent a precautionary directive directly to mobile phones in the relevant areas. The public is asked to act responsibly and follow the instructions—they save lives. Upon receiving an alert, the public is instructed to enter a protected space and remain there until further notice.'
Cabinet Meeting Expected
With tensions at a peak, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold a cabinet meeting at 11am local time. Israeli media reports suggest that Netanyahu, along with a select group of senior ministers and security officials, will discuss military, security, and diplomatic responses to the ongoing crisis.
