A light aircraft made an emergency crash landing on a road in the holiday resort of Amarilla Golf, Tenerife, on Wednesday afternoon, just yards from tourist accommodation. The incident occurred at around 5pm local time as the plane was approaching Tenerife South Airport.
The pilot was forced to land after suffering a sudden loss of altitude due to an engine failure. The aircraft came to rest at an intersection near residential flats and a golf course. Both the pilot and co-pilot exited the plane unaided and were taken to hospital for observation, though they did not appear to have serious injuries.
Emergency services, including the Tenerife Fire Consortium, local police, and medical teams, responded to the scene. Firefighters applied a foam mattress over the area to prevent the fuel spill from igniting. The accident did not affect pedestrians or other vehicles.
An investigation is now underway to determine the technical cause of the flight failure. The plane had been flying towards Tenerife South Airport when it encountered mechanical difficulties.
