A massive '6-7' event at a Sky Zone trampoline park in Shrewsbury, Missouri, spiraled into chaos on Saturday as up to 350 unaccompanied children and teenagers gathered, leading to multiple fights and rock-throwing incidents targeting police officers.
Event details and police response
The Shrewsbury Missouri Police Department reported that between 300 and 350 juveniles, aged 10 to 17, queued outside the venue. Despite expectations of a large crowd, the park had not arranged additional security. With temperatures nearing 90 degrees Fahrenheit, tensions quickly escalated. Approximately eight fights broke out within minutes, prompting officers to call for backup from other agencies due to the crowd's size and volatility.
Chaos spills into nearby businesses
The mayhem extended to neighboring establishments, including Aldi, Walmart, and My Place. Youths entered these stores, caused damage, and threatened customers and staff. Most surrounding businesses were forced to close for the day. Police noted that some juveniles directed aggression toward officers, shouting obscenities, making threats, and hurling rocks. Several minors were detained and later released to their parents or guardians.
Weapon confiscated from 12-year-old
A knife was confiscated from a 12-year-old girl who admitted traveling from Florissant after seeing the fights on social media. She said she brought the weapon for protection and wanted to be involved in the violence. The area was cleared by approximately 9:30 p.m. No officers or others reported injuries.
This incident follows a separate brawl at the Epsom Derby in the UK, where two men were seen fighting during the last race. The trampoline park event highlights the dangers of unsupervised large gatherings of minors, especially when amplified by social media.
