Escape from custody
Temitope Segun, 25, who is serving a sentence for supplying class A drugs, fled from a Serco van near Woolwich High Street at around 6:40pm on Monday, June 8. He had been transferred from Bromley Magistrates Court to HMP Thameside when he attacked a guard and made his escape, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Description and connections
Segun was last seen wearing a black jacket, black trousers, and black trainers. Police believe he has connections to Plumstead, Abbey Wood, and Woolwich. The public is urged not to approach him but to call 999 immediately if spotted.
Serco investigates
Private contractor Serco, responsible for the prisoner transport, confirmed the incident. A spokesperson said: "An incident occurred on the evening of Monday 8 June in Woolwich. The matter is under investigation." One member of staff was injured and is recovering at home. Serco holds a prisoner escort and custody services contract with the Ministry of Justice covering the south of England.
