Police and bomb disposal teams have returned to a residential street in Fallowfield for the second time in 24 hours after another suspicious item was discovered. The latest incident on Abram Close and Rostherne Avenue has prompted evacuations and a large emergency services presence.
Second Suspicious Item Found
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers investigating a suspicious item found in a front garden on Saturday evening discovered a second suspicious item outside a property on adjoining Rostherne Avenue at around 2:45pm on Sunday. A cordon was put in place, and several houses were evacuated as a precaution.
The first incident occurred on Saturday, June 6, when a backpack containing bottles with an unknown substance sparked a major response. Around 20 properties were evacuated, and army bomb disposal experts attended the scene. The cordon was lifted in the early hours of Sunday, but investigations continue.
No Wider Threat
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Morley of GMP's City of Manchester Division reassured the public: "There is no wider threat." He urged people to avoid the area and report any information. The incidents are not being treated as terror-related.
Specialist explosives robots and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams were deployed. The Fallowfield library was opened to provide hot drinks for evacuated residents.
