Epsom Derby Brawl: Bloody Fight Erupts at Racecourse

A shocking brawl erupted at the Epsom Derby on Saturday, June 6, as two men engaged in a violent fight in front of horrified racegoers. The incident took place during the last race of Derby Day at Epsom Racecourse, with footage showing the men throwing punches for several minutes despite attempts by staff to intervene.

Chaos at the Grandstand

The fight broke out inside the main grandstand building, where many attendees had gathered to shelter from wet weather. The video captures one man with his white shirt ripped off before falling to the ground. He then gets back up and continues throwing punches. Another racegoer appears to be knocked over in the chaos, while one of the men is later seen with blood covering much of his face and shirt.

Witness Accounts

A witness described the scene: “The response team and a few people were trying to split them up but they were just going at it for four or five minutes before the police got there.” The witness added that one man had “blood all over his shirt” by the time officers arrived. Another person caught up in the incident was taken away by ambulance.

It was reported that arrests were made after the fight. The witness stated: “I definitely saw one in cuffs.”

Police and Racecourse Response

Epsom Derby Day is one of the biggest events in the British sporting calendar, attracting tens of thousands of racegoers each year. Before the weekend, the police described it as “one of the biggest operations” of the year. Last year, four arrests were made during the two-day event, while 10 people were arrested the year before.

A spokesperson for Epsom Downs Racecourse said: “Our security teams and police on site responded quickly to an incident on Saturday. This matter is now being dealt with by Surrey Police so it would not be appropriate to comment further, other than to say that this sort of behaviour has no place at our racecourse.”
