Driver dies after A709 crash near Lochmaben

A 50-year-old man has died and two others have been seriously injured following a collision on the A709 near Lochmaben in Dumfries and Galloway. The incident occurred at approximately 7:35 PM on Saturday, June 6, involving a black Vauxhall Vectra and a white Citroen Dispatch.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene on the Dumfries to Lockerbie road near Lochfield. Three individuals were transported to hospital for medical treatment. Tragically, the driver of the Vauxhall, a 50-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The occupants of the Citroen, a 67-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, remain hospitalized in serious condition. The A709 was closed for approximately eight hours to facilitate investigations, reopening at around 3:30 AM on Sunday.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Road Policing officers are appealing for witnesses as inquiries continue into the circumstances of the crash. Sergeant Wayne Carnochan stated: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died at this time. Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything around this time to contact us. In addition, anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist.”
