Body Found In Search For Missing Edinburgh Man Last Seen At Asda

Police have confirmed the discovery of a body in the search for a missing 56-year-old man from East Lothian. Gary Hill was reported missing on Monday, February 9, after he was last seen at the Asda store in Chesser, Edinburgh, at around 4.30pm that day.

Officers had issued an urgent appeal on Thursday, expressing growing concerns for his welfare and suggesting he may have travelled to East Lothian, possibly sleeping in his vehicle. The body was found near Cockburnspath, a village in the Scottish Borders, at approximately 10.15pm on Thursday, February 12.

Although formal identification has yet to take place, Police Scotland have informed Mr Hill's family of the development. In a statement, the force said: 'Around 10.15pm on Thursday, 12 February, 2026, the body of a man was found near Cockburnspath, East Lothian. Formal identification is yet to take place, however, the family of Gary Hill, 56, who was reported missing from the area on Monday, 9 February, 2026, has been informed.'

The death is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
