New images have revealed the scale of damage caused by a major fire that tore through a large building at a business park in south Wales. Firefighters were called to Ty Menter in Navigation Park, Abercynon, on Monday morning and remained at the scene throughout the day.
Fire Crews Tackle Blaze Near A470
The fire broke out in a building called Ty Menter, located next to the A470 north of Pontypridd. Multiple crews, appliances, and specialist rescue equipment, including aerial ladder platforms, high-volume pumps, and water bowsers, were deployed. A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service advised residents living nearby to close all windows and doors due to smoke. The smoke also impacted the nearby A470, and members of the public were urged to avoid the area.
Local Officials Urge Caution
Rhondda Cynon Taf councillor Andrew Morgan described the incident as a major fire and asked motorists to take extra care if travelling on the A470 due to smoke. Traffic on the A470 was not hugely affected, but drivers were advised to remain cautious.
Images Show Extent of Damage
Photographs from the scene show flames coming from the building's roof earlier on Monday, with thick smoke filling the air and visible for miles around. Aerial pictures clearly demonstrate the scale of the destruction. Fire crews extinguished the flames but remained at the site throughout Monday to ensure the fire was fully under control.
The full extent of the damage may not become clear until later in the week. The incident is ongoing, and investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to follow.
