Almost a week after a 19-year-old man was shot in the arm in Toxteth, the victim is believed to be refusing to cooperate with police as detectives continue their search for the gunman. Emergency services were called to the area shortly after 8:40 pm on Wednesday, June 3, following reports of a shooting.
Shooting Incident Details
The teenager was reportedly shot outside the Merseyside Caribbean Council Community Centre on Amberley Street. He then fled the scene before collapsing at the corner of Carlingford Close and Selborne Street. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Police have confirmed that the motive for the attack remains unknown, and the victim is currently not assisting with the investigation. Detectives believe the gunman was riding an electric bike and wearing all black clothing at the time of the incident.
Witness Accounts
Residents in the area described hearing a single loud bang, which they initially thought was a firework. One neighbor told reporters: "I heard a bang, it was like a firework and just one, then the police came racing up and down the street, there were loads of them." The same witness added: "There was a lad on the door by the lamppost. I think his mum arrived and she just broke down."
Another local claimed that police had visited Carlingford Close earlier that day. They also stated that the victim attempted to run away from the shooting location before collapsing.
Police Investigation
A police helicopter was seen circling the area before officers arrived. Two cordons were established: one covering a section of Selborne Street near Carlingford Close, and another encompassing part of Upper Parliament Street, the Merseyside Caribbean Centre, and a portion of Selborne Street behind the centre. Scientific support officers were observed working within the cordon shortly before 11 pm.
Detective Inspector Chris Clark urged the public to come forward with any information: "We are continuing to appeal for anyone who was in the area of Amberley Street on the evening of 3 June who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact us. We believe the male gunman was dressed in dark clothing and riding an e-bike and would ask people to check their Ring doorbell, dashcam or CCTV to see if they captured anything."
He added: "We are committed to removing weapons and the people that choose to use them from the streets of Merseyside and will investigate any information we receive."
