A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old who was fatally shot in Liverpool two years ago. Ellis Cox was killed on June 23, 2024, after being shot on the Liver Industrial Estate.
Arrest Details
Merseyside Police have confirmed today (June 14) that a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. He is in custody and will be questioned.
Incident Background
Ellis was riding his bike with four other people when they were approached by 'one to three men on two electric bikes' at around 10.50pm, according to the ECHO. One of the group on the electric bikes opened fire, sending three shots towards Ellis and the people he was with. Ellis, who was fleeing on a pedal bike, was shot in the back minutes away from his home, which was at the other end of the Liverpool Loop Line, known locally as the Ralla.
Family and Police Statements
Ellis had no links to crime, but police have said his associates have links to 'street level drug dealing in the local area'. His family believe people who have key information about his death have stayed silent, helping his killers evade justice.
This most recent arrest brings the total number of arrests in connection to the murder to nine. Arrests include a teenager who was arrested at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in April this year after returning from Spain.
Detective Inspector Steve Wilkinson said: 'The investigation into the murder of Ellis is ongoing and this man will be questioned as part of our inquiries. This month will mark two years since Ellis was fatally shot at the Liver Industrial Estate and his family have been forced to live without anyone facing justice. We remain determined to find the people who were responsible and although we have made this arrest it is vital that anyone who has information comes forward as a matter of urgency so we can prosecute those who were involved in Ellis’s murder.'
