A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Ellis Cox, Merseyside Police have confirmed. The suspect was taken into custody on Sunday, June 14, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and is currently being questioned.
Background of the Case
Ellis Cox, 19, was fatally shot on June 23, 2024, while riding his bike on the Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree. He was with four other individuals when they were approached by one to three men on electric bikes around 10:50 PM. The suspects opened fire, firing three shots toward Ellis and his group. Ellis, who was fleeing on a pedal bike, was shot in the back just minutes from his home, located at the other end of the Liverpool Loop Line, locally known as the Ralla.
Investigation Progress
This latest arrest brings the total number of arrests in connection with the murder to nine. Among those previously arrested was a teenager who was detained at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in April after returning from Spain. Detective Inspector Steve Wilkinson stated: "The investigation into the murder of Ellis is ongoing and this man will be questioned as part of our inquiries."
Wilkinson added: "This month will mark two years since Ellis was fatally shot at the Liver Industrial Estate and his family have been forced to live without anyone facing justice. We remain determined to find the people who were responsible and although we have made this arrest it is vital that anyone who has information comes forward as a matter of urgency so we can prosecute those who were involved in Ellis’s murder."
Family's Appeal
Ellis had no links to crime, but police have stated that his associates have ties to street-level drug dealing in the local area. His family believes that individuals with key information about his death have remained silent, allowing his killers to evade justice. They urge anyone with information to come forward.
