Human remains discovered on a bypass in Nottinghamshire have been identified as a man who had been missing for over six years. Michael Dennington, born in 1961, was last seen alive at King's Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire on May 26, 2020. Despite extensive public appeals and searches involving drones and divers, he seemingly vanished without a trace.

The remains were found on a central reservation along the A617 bypass in May. Following DNA testing, they were confirmed to be those of Dennington. A team of anthropologists, detectives, and police officers worked at the site until a positive identification was made.

Investigation Ongoing

The circumstances surrounding Dennington's death remain unclear. Police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination before proceeding with their investigation. Dennington's family has been informed of the identification.

Detective Stuart Barson stated: 'These types of investigations are complex, and we needed to ensure the results of DNA testing were conclusive before releasing information about the deceased. We are now in a position to release these details. An investigation is still underway surrounding the circumstances of this death, and we are currently waiting for the final post-mortem reports. We are working closely with the family, who are being updated on any developments and offered support.
