Aircraft Engineer Plummets from Jet2 Plane at Manchester Airport
An aircraft engineer, believed to be a contractor working for Jet2, sustained serious injuries including fractures to his arm and leg after falling from the rear of a plane at Manchester Airport. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 11, at approximately 8am, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Emergency Services and Investigators Scramble to Scene
Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service and fire service vehicles rushed to the airport following reports of the fall. Photographs from the scene show multiple emergency response vehicles surrounding the Jet2 aircraft, with a door open near the tail and mobile passenger stairs visible nearby.
The Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) confirmed they were notified of the accident and dispatched a specialist team to Manchester Airport on Saturday to begin their investigation. The AAIB stated: "On Saturday 11 April the AAIB were informed of an accident involving a person falling from an aircraft at Manchester Airport. The AAIB dispatched a team to Manchester Airport on Saturday to begin an investigation into the accident."
Jet2 Confirms Full Investigation Launched
Jet2 issued a statement acknowledging the incident involving an individual from a third-party provider. "We are aware of an incident that took place at Manchester Airport this morning (Saturday 11th April) involving an individual from a third-party provider," a spokesperson said. "We are unable to confirm further details at present, however, can confirm that a full investigation has been launched. We are doing our best to provide support to everyone who needs it."
Manchester Airport confirmed the emergency response attendance and noted that the aircraft involved was scheduled to depart for Tenerife. The investigation by both Jet2 and the AAIB will examine the circumstances surrounding how the engineer fell from the aircraft and what safety protocols were in place at the time.
