West Lothian College once again welcomed runners of all ages and abilities to its annual 5K Race, an event that brought together students, staff, and members of the local community for an evening of fitness, well-being, and community spirit.
The race started and finished on the college campus, taking participants through the heart of Livingston before returning to a lively finish line atmosphere at the college.
Student-Organized Event
Organised by the college’s HNC Sports Coaching and Development students, the race provided valuable hands-on experience in event planning, promotion, and sports leadership. This allowed students to put their skills into practice while delivering a successful event for the local community.
Hazel Brady, Interim Principal of West Lothian College, said: “This is an event that our students, staff, and local community really look forward to, and I am delighted to see it return to the college, reflecting our important role at the heart of the West Lothian community.”
Unique Shortbread Medals
In a unique twist, participants received hand-made shortbread medals created by the college’s Level 4 & 5 Professional Cookery students, offering a memorable and much-enjoyed reward at the finish line.
Jess Westcough, the college’s Active Campus Coordinator, added: “A huge thank you to our HNC Sports Coaching students for their enthusiasm and hard work in delivering this year’s West Lothian College 5K race. We would also like to thank our Professional Cookery students for creating our unique 5K medals, which have become a real trademark of the event.”
Sponsor Support
The event was made possible thanks to the support of several local sponsors, with Decathlon Livingston returning as the main sponsor for a second consecutive year. West Lothian College thanked all sponsors for their contribution to the success of the event and their continued support of opportunities that promote health, well-being, and community participation across West Lothian.
