Cape Verde pulled off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history by holding European champions Spain to a goalless draw in their tournament debut.
Vozinha the Hero
The 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha, who plays in the Portuguese second division, was in inspired form in Atlanta on Monday. He made a series of superb saves to keep Spain at bay, ensuring the Group H minnows went into halftime level.
Spain's Missed Chances
Spain, among the favorites for glory in North America this summer, were hugely out of sorts. Ferran Torres spurned their best chance by smashing against the crossbar from point-blank range in the first half. Lamine Yamal's late introduction off the bench after a hamstring injury could not spare Spain's blushes.
Late Drama
Cape Verde nearly snatched a late winner when Unai Simon saved Diney Borges' header from a corner in the 90th minute. The result leaves Spain frustrated and Cape Verde celebrating a historic point.
