Ryanair launches £20 winter sun flights from Cardiff & Aberdeen to sunny Alicante
New £20 Ryanair routes to sunny Spanish city

Budget airline Ryanair has unveiled two new UK flight routes to a popular Spanish sunshine destination, offering Brits an affordable escape from the winter gloom. The carrier has added direct services from Cardiff and Aberdeen to the vibrant coastal city of Alicante on Spain's Costa Blanca.

New Flight Schedule and Bargain Fares

The new route from Aberdeen will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. For those looking to travel in December, fares start from just £22. The Cardiff to Alicante service will run nearly every day throughout December, with tickets currently available for an astonishing £20.

These additions are part of a wider expansion of Ryanair's Alicante schedule, which now boasts a total of 79 routes. Ten new destinations have been added from the Spanish hub, including Bratislava, Linz, Salzburg, and Lanzarote.

Why Alicante is a Perfect Winter Getaway

The primary draw for UK travellers is the guaranteed sunshine. Alicante enjoys a remarkable 300 days of sunshine per year. During December, daytime temperatures typically reach highs of 18C, with the warmest days potentially climbing to a balmy 23C. This climate provides a perfect opportunity to relax on the city's golden beaches, offering a stark contrast to the typical British winter weather.

The excellent weather and stunning landscape have made the region a haven for golf enthusiasts. Alicante and the surrounding Costa Blanca are home to several championship courses, including Las Colinas and Lo Romero, as well as resort courses like La Finca and Melia Villaitana. The Alicante Golf course, designed by legendary golfer Severiano Ballesteros, is also a major attraction.

Exploring the City's Culture and Cuisine

Beyond the beaches and fairways, Alicante offers a rich cultural experience. The city's architecture presents a fascinating blend of old and new, a result of restoration and reconstruction following the Spanish Civil War. The imposing Castle of Santa Bárbara dominates the skyline, offering spectacular views over the old quarter and the Mediterranean Sea.

The historic Old Town, with its winding streets, is packed with pubs, bars, cafés, and restaurants. A must-visit is the iconic Explanada de España, a seafront promenade paved with over 6.5 million marble tiles in a mesmerising wave pattern, lined with palm trees.

For dining, the city offers a wealth of affordable options serving local cuisine. Notable spots include Santa Gloria, Bar Cento, and Café Tres Texturas. Brunch It is highly recommended for morning meals, while Browns offers a traditional British carvery for those missing home comforts.

Getting around is straightforward thanks to an efficient public transport network, including a tram that connects the city centre directly to the seafront. For beach lovers, the central Playa del Postiguet offers white sand, restaurants, and watersports, with a lift nearby providing direct access to the historic castle.
