Police searching for a British man believed to have been swept away by flash flooding in Mallorca have discovered a body. The discovery comes after the body of a British woman was found on the Spanish tourist island on Wednesday.
Both individuals are thought to have been caught in a flash flood near the Torrent de Pareis canyon in Sa Calobra. Emergency services had been searching the area since Wednesday, with the Spanish Civil Guard confirming the man's body was found on Friday.
The Torrent de Pareis canyon, approximately 5km long, runs from Lluc in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range to the sea. The route is known to be dangerous, with sections prone to flooding. A tourist website warns that the sheer cliffs offer no easy exits, and visitors are advised to check weather conditions before entering.
Earlier this week, authorities warned of 'very intense storms' across the Balearic Islands and eastern Spain, urging people to stay indoors due to strong winds and heavy rain. The mountain rescue brigade reported that 10 other tourists trapped by floods were rescued after being 'surprised by the storm', with a helicopter assisting in the rescue of hikers stranded in the Serra de Tramuntana on Tuesday.
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the families of a British man and woman following their deaths in Mallorca and are in contact with local authorities.'
