A Place In The Sun presenter Laura Hamilton has shared crucial advice for potential holiday home buyers, highlighting a significant change in regulations. The 42-year-old, who recently purchased her own holiday home, stressed the importance of checking rental licence requirements before buying.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Hamilton advised visiting potential locations at different times of the year to understand seasonal variations. 'In the winter months, a holiday resort destination could be completely quiet and it's a totally different kettle of fish,' she said.
She also warned about stricter rules on holiday lets: 'If you are looking to buy for rent, you need to make sure the property has a rental licence or at least the opportunity to apply for one. They're tightening up on that now! Where you could before just buy a holiday home and just let it out, now you have to apply for a licence, which I think is a good thing.'
Hamilton noted a 'massive regeneration' in parts of Spain since she started the show, making buying abroad more attractive post-pandemic due to remote working and guaranteed sunshine. The new series of A Place In The Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
