Manchester United have identified Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall as a potential summer signing, with Fulham's Antonee Robinson also under consideration as they look to strengthen their options at the back. A new goalkeeper and a midfielder are also on the agenda.
Transfer priorities for the summer
United will return to the Champions League next season, and with Tyrell Malacia set to leave and Patrick Dorgu expected to continue in a more advanced role, Luke Shaw is currently the only senior left-back heading into the campaign. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can provide cover if required.
According to Sky Sports, Hall is admired by figures within the Reds' hierarchy and is a player they 'could look to act on if the opportunity arises.' The 21-year-old, who missed out on Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad, is viewed as a long-term option with Shaw out of contract next year.
Hall's situation at Newcastle
Earlier this month, reports claimed that Hall had submitted a transfer request to Newcastle following suggestions of a bust-up between Eddie Howe and the defender. However, our colleagues at ChronicleLive understand this is not the case, and that the pair ended the season on good terms.
Elsewhere, Robinson is also under consideration and is expected to attract interest during the World Cup as he represents host nation the United States. The imminent arrival of a new head coach at Craven Cottage could put the 28-year-old's six-year spell at Fulham in doubt.
Goalkeeper and midfield targets
United are also targeting a back-up goalkeeper, with Andre Onana, who has returned from his loan at Trabzonspor, not expected to be given the chance to compete for the No.1 shirt in pre-season. Altay Bayindir is another likely departure after Senne Lammens' impressive debut campaign.
Returning goalkeeper Radek Vitek, who spent the season on loan at Bristol City, is also expected to move on. United continue to explore further midfield additions despite securing the signing of Atalanta's Ederson.
Mateus Fernandes has been touted as a possibility, with contact already made with the player's representatives in recent days. However, West Ham are believed to be demanding around £85million to part with the Portuguese midfielder - more than double the £42m they paid for him a year ago.
The Hammers need to raise funds following their relegation to the Championship, and Fernandes' former club Southampton hold a 15 per cent sell-on clause on any future sale.
Anderson also on the list
Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson also features high on United's list of targets, but they would have learned that a fee in excess of £120m would be required for the East Midlands club to consider a sale.
That is because Manchester City have already seen a second offer for Anderson rejected. That bid is thought to be £106m plus £15m in bonuses, but Forest are said to be holding out for a package worth up to £130m - £110m up front and £20m in bonuses.
Despite rejecting two offers, Anderson has made it clear that his preference is a move to City, which could leave United out of the race.
Confirmed departures
Elsewhere, United have confirmed the departures of Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, along with academy players Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey and Malachi Sharpe.
