Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, who delivered a standout performance for South Korea in their World Cup opener against Czechia. The 29-year-old centre-back played the full 90 minutes as South Korea secured a 2-1 victory, coming from behind after Wolves defender Ladislav Krejci's opener. Goals from Feyenoord's Hwang In-beom and Besiktas forward Oh Hyeon-gyu sealed the win.
Renewed Speculation
Kim's display has reignited speculation about his future, with German publication TZ reporting that United scouts have been monitoring him during his appearances for Bayern Munich. The defender is said to be attracting interest from several clubs across Europe. United have long been linked with Kim, dating back to his time at Napoli before his move to Bayern in 2023, when the Bundesliga giants activated a €50 million (£43 million) release clause.
United's Summer Activity
Manchester United have already made moves in the summer transfer window, agreeing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The Red Devils will pay an initial £35 million, with £3.8 million in add-ons, totaling £38.8 million. United had also targeted Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, but Manchester City now appear to be the England international's preferred destination.
South Korea's next World Cup fixture sees them face co-hosts Mexico on Thursday evening in Zapopan, where Kim will aim to impress once more. With United's defensive needs, the South Korean international could be a key target as the transfer window progresses.
