MAC Cosmetics Transforms Staff into TikTok Live Shopping Hosts

MAC Cosmetics is launching an innovative initiative to turn its UK employees into live shopping hosts on TikTok Shop, with the program set to debut on April 2. The beauty brand is installing mini studios in its stores, enabling makeup artists to broadcast live shopping shows directly from the shop floor.

First Major UK Beauty Brand to Offer Affiliate Opportunity to All Staff

MAC Cosmetics claims it is the first major beauty brand in the United Kingdom to provide every member of staff with the option to participate as an affiliate seller on the social media platform. Employees who choose to become faces of the live channel will receive a percentage of any sales they generate through TikTok Shop.

The makeup artists will be encouraged to host interactive tutorials and dynamic product demonstrations, with viewers able to purchase items instantly through the app. This move is designed to capitalise on the explosive growth of the influencer-led beauty market, which has seen significant traction on social media platforms.

Launching from London's Carnaby Street Store

As part of the Estee Lauder group of beauty brands, MAC announced that the inaugural live shopping show will be streamed from its flagship store on Carnaby Street in London. The brand hopes that engaging social media shoppers will not only drive online sales but also increase foot traffic to its more than 230 standalone shops and concessions across the UK.

TikTok Shop emerged on the UK retail scene in 2021 and has rapidly evolved into a powerful force in e-commerce. The platform reaches millions of users of the video-sharing app, converting many into shoppers with just a few taps. Content creators frequently earn commissions on products they sell through the app when collaborating with brands or retailers.

Beauty Sales Soar on TikTok Shop

The app has been instrumental in fuelling a boom for the beauty market, with beauty sales on the platform surging by 60% year-on-year in 2025. Trends such as Korean skincare have significantly contributed to this growth. Major retailers like Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury's are now selling products on the marketplace, alongside thousands of smaller businesses and brands.

However, the proliferation of in-app shopping has also raised concerns about impulse buying, particularly among younger consumers who are often targeted by influencer-led marketing campaigns.

Empowering Artists and Connecting with Communities

Sara Staniford, the vice president and general manager of MAC in the UK and Ireland, stated: "MAC has always been driven by our artists and the communities they create. TikTok Shop gives us an exciting new way to celebrate that creativity and connect with beauty lovers in real time. It puts our artists exactly where they belong, at the centre of the conversation."

This strategic initiative underscores MAC's commitment to leveraging digital platforms to enhance customer engagement and drive sales, while empowering its staff with new earning opportunities in the evolving retail landscape.
