Iraola Keeps Slot's Dressing Room Rule, First Liverpool Target Revealed
Iraola Keeps Slot's Rule, First Liverpool Target Revealed

Andoni Iraola is set to make his mark at Liverpool, but the new head coach has already revealed a key similarity to his predecessor, Arne Slot. The 43-year-old Basque, who built a strong reputation at Rayo Vallecano and Bournemouth, is known for his direct and attacking style of play. However, behind the scenes, Iraola appears to share Slot's philosophy on managing the dressing room.

Iraola's Hands-Off Approach

In footage released by Liverpool titled Andoni Iraola: The First Day, the Spaniard is seen exploring the training facilities at Kirkby. Upon entering the dressing room, Iraola commented, "I try not to come because I know the players, they think of it as a safe space." This mirrors Slot's own words when he toured the same facilities in 2024. Slot had said, "Me being in here, you wouldn't see that that much. Maybe not at all... After the session, they should talk about us, me, in here, with all the freedom they have."

While Iraola will undoubtedly bring his own identity to the club, fans will be encouraged by this shared respect for player privacy. Slot, who was dismissed earlier this month, had been praised for implementing a composed atmosphere after Jurgen Klopp's intense reign.

First Transfer Target Identified

According to talkSPORT, Iraola's first signing could be Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. The 23-year-old playmaker is reportedly a player "that Iraola knows well" from their time together at the Vitality Stadium. Concerns over Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister's performances last season have prompted Liverpool's interest. Bournemouth are keen to secure Scott on a new deal, but "noise is growing" around his future, with Liverpool "one to watch."

Scott himself has praised Iraola ahead of his unveiling, saying, "What can Liverpool expect from Iraola? He is obviously a great manager. You see what we have done as a club at Bournemouth... I think the way we press out of possession is very aggressive, maybe similar to the early Klopp teams... He has done a lot for me personally."

With Iraola's first day at Anfield complete, Liverpool fans have reason to be optimistic about both the manager's methods and the potential arrival of a talented midfielder.
