A consultant stroke physician at NHS Ayrshire & Arran has been honoured with a prestigious medical award. Dr Sandip Kumar Ghosh, who has dedicated over four decades to the region's healthcare, received the William Cullen Prize from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE).
Recognition for Clinical Excellence
The prize acknowledges Dr Ghosh's exceptional contributions to clinical service, particularly in stroke medicine. His career, spanning 50 years, includes work in respiratory, general internal, geriatric, and stroke medicine. Since 1997, he has been instrumental in developing acute stroke and rehabilitation services in Ayrshire.
College Praises Dedication
Professor Mark Strachan, President of the RCPE, said: "The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is delighted to recognise Dr Ghosh’s notable contribution to advancing stroke medicine in NHS Ayrshire & Arran through the award of our Cullen Prize. He has demonstrated a real commitment to research and innovation in stroke care to the benefit of patients and is also an effective teacher who supports the development of colleagues."
The award was presented at a ceremony at University Hospital Ayr. Dr Ghosh said: "Receiving this award was an utter surprise and I never imagined I would be nominated for the Cullen Prize; it is an absolute honour. I love my role here at NHS Ayrshire & Arran and over the years I have been involved in countless interesting and diverse areas of medicine."
