Barcelona end interest in permanent Rashford deal

Barcelona have reportedly ended their interest in signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal from Manchester United. The England international spent the 2025-26 season on loan at the Catalan giants, helping them retain the La Liga title with a series of impressive performances.

Rashford's loan success

The Manchester United academy graduate enjoyed a brilliant season under manager Hansi Flick, contributing significantly to Barcelona's domestic success. His form also earned him a call-up to England's World Cup squad. Barcelona had a £26 million purchase option included in the loan agreement with United to secure his services permanently.

Barcelona's decision

However, Spanish publication Marca now claims that Barcelona have prioritised Anthony Gordon over Rashford. The winger, signed from Newcastle United, was chosen due to his defensive work rate, which is considered Rashford's 'weakest point'. Additionally, the four-year age gap between the two players worked in Gordon's favour.

Barcelona reportedly informed Manchester United that they were only willing to pay half of Rashford's suggested fee, offering just £13 million. United rejected this proposal. Currently, the Red Devils have no plans to reintegrate Rashford into Michael Carrick's squad for the upcoming season.

What's next for Rashford?

With Barcelona out of the picture and no place at Manchester United, Rashford faces an uncertain future. The 28-year-old forward will need to explore other options ahead of the new campaign. Further updates on this developing story are expected soon.
