A group of American tourists visiting the UK documented their first trip to Asda, describing the supermarket as 'alien' and pointing out numerous differences from US stores. The video, shared by content creator Amber Kacherian from Florida, showed her and her friends exploring the York branch of the supermarket chain.
Kacherian compared Asda to Walmart, but noted it was much smaller, likening its size to the deli section of a US Walmart. The group found several products unfamiliar, including Twirl Xtra and Cadbury Mini Rolls, which they compared to Little Debbie snacks. One friend criticised a football cake, calling it 'unacceptable' because it depicted a 'soccer ball'.
The tourists were surprised by the low price of gluten-free bread, which cost £1.90 compared to around $7 in the US. They also mistook Walkers crisps for Lay's, noting the different flavours such as prawn cocktail and roast chicken. Another friend pointed out that Lynx body spray is known as Axe in America.
Kacherian summed up the experience by saying, 'It's like being in America but everything is just a little bit wrong.' The video sparked backlash from British viewers, who criticised the tourists for implying that UK products were inferior. One commenter said, 'Just because it's different doesn't mean it's wrong.'
