M&S Ice Cream Ties with Magnum in Taste Test – and It's Cheaper

Consumer champion Which? has revealed that a supermarket own-label ice cream matches the quality of the iconic Magnum – at a lower price. In a blind taste test, 60 volunteers sampled Magnum Classic alongside nine own-brand alternatives, including offerings from Aldi and Lidl.

Sharing joint first place with an 82% approval rating were Marks and Spencer Chocolate Sticks and the classic Magnum. Testers praised the balanced sweetness and intense chocolate and vanilla notes of both products. The M&S version costs £2.40 for three 110ml sticks (80p each), a full pound less than Magnum's £3.50 for three.

Lidl's Gelatelli Classic Ice Cream sticks secured third place with a 79% rating. Tasters commended their perfect balance of sweetness, creaminess, and vanilla flavour. At less than half the price of Magnums and slightly larger, they offer excellent value.

Aldi's Gianni's Milk Chocolate Ice Creams came fourth with a 77% rating. Priced at £1.69 for four 100ml sticks (42p each), they were the most affordable option. However, some testers noted a lack of creaminess.
