A studio flat in the Art Deco block made famous as Hercule Poirot's home in the TV series Agatha Christie's Poirot has been listed for sale at £335,000. The property, Flat 203 at 56B Whitehaven Mansions, is the fictional residence of the Belgian detective, first mentioned in Christie's 1936 novel The A.B.C Murders.
The exterior of Florin Court, a 10-storey Art Deco building on Charterhouse Square, was used as the setting for Poirot's home in the ITV series starring Sir David Suchet. Suchet played the detective for over two decades, from the late 1980s until 2013, completing 70 episodes.
The fourth-floor apartment has been rented out for around five years and requires some renovation. It offers access to a shared roof terrace, a basement swimming pool, and a share of the freehold. Originally listed at £375,000 last summer, the price has been reduced by just over 10%.
Nick Scott of Scott City Residential, the estate agent marketing the property, said: 'Covid-19 has had an awful effect on the City with it empty of workers. People generally reassess their housing needs at such a time and, yes there has been an 'escape to the country' but we are seeing a return to buying in the City with enquiries rising.'
Scott added that values in 2020 fell by approximately 10%, making property more affordable for those previously priced out of central London. Florin Court, built in 1936 at a cost of £74,000, was designed by Guy Morgan & Partners with a U-plan to maximise views over Charterhouse Square.
