Uncertainty surrounding James Trafford's Manchester City future continued this week after comments made while away with England. The City academy graduate returned to his boyhood club expecting to be first choice, but Gianluigi Donnarumma's arrival from PSG changed those plans.
Trafford's Role at City
Trafford was City's second choice goalkeeper this season, playing in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup as City won both competitions. His performances earned him a call-up to the England squad alongside Jordan Pickford and Dean Henderson.
England Ambition
Pickford remains Thomas Tuchel's first choice for the World Cup, but Trafford has made no secret of his ambition to become England's No.1. "History says yeah," Trafford admitted when asked if he needed to be first choice for his club. "There hasn't been a goalie start for any of the top nations that isn't a number one at the club."
Reflecting on the season, Trafford said: "It's been challenging, but I've learned so much. Some days were harder than others, but I kept winning and improving. I came out having played a part in winning two trophies."
Price Tag
If City sell Trafford, they are expected to demand £40m. The club wants to make a profit on his exit.
