Liverpool are facing a major summer rebuild after Arne Slot was sacked following a disappointing season. The club are now targeting Andoni Iraola, the outgoing Bournemouth manager, as their next head coach. Iraola, 43, has impressed with his fluid and fast style of football at the Vitality Stadium.
The priority for Iraola would be replacing Mohamed Salah, who has left after scoring 257 goals for the club. Bayern Munich's Michael Olise is a top target, with the former Crystal Palace winger scoring 42 goals in two Bundesliga seasons. However, Bayern's insistence that the 24-year-old is not for sale could be a sticking point, with a £100m-plus bid likely required.
Alternative options include RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, valued at £87m, PSG's Bradley Barcola, and West Ham's Jarrod Bowen, who could be available after the Hammers' relegation. Iraola could also raid his former club Bournemouth for Brazilian winger Rayan, who has impressed since joining in January.
Iraola would inherit a squad that spent £450m last summer, including £236m on Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, who have combined for just eight goals and five assists. The new manager would need to unlock Isak's potential and find Wirtz's best position, while also revitalising midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.
Left back Milos Kerkez, who worked with Iraola at Bournemouth, needs to establish himself after Andy Robertson's departure. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate is set to leave after failing to agree a new contract, adding to the defensive overhaul required.
