Americans are saying one thing about the Tartan Army in Boston amid World Cup fever. The Scots have truly left an impression as they take over the city.
Scots Transform Boston
The scenery of Boston, Massachusetts, has changed quite significantly over the past week as thousands of Scots have taken over the city to help cheer on the Scottish football team in the World Cup. Now a week on from since the majority of Scots started arriving in the States, many Americans are saying one thing: they want them to stay.
Prior to Scotland's first win in the World Cup group stages since 1990, which took place over the weekend, it is estimated that a whopping 40,000 members of the Tartan Army made the trip overseas. Creating a sea of kilts, bagpipes, pints, and chants, the city of Boston has been completely transformed.
Americans Overjoyed
While some people in the States may have been confused about the influx of Scots into the city with their blue and white football kits, many Americans are now overjoyed by the uplifting presence of the Tartan Army. So much so, Bostonians are now saying that they need to figure out a way to keep Scots from leaving them.
Many Americans have taken to social media over the last few days to share their love for the Tartan Army and the spirit that they bring. Branding the Scots' energy as "absolutely incredible", many hope Scotland will keep the party going.
Social Media Praise
One Boston local on TikTok, under the account name @mmjamin1, has now received over 633,300 views on a recent post praising the Scots. He began the video by saying: "We need to figure out a way to not let these Scots leave Boston because the vibes are absolutely incredible."
Sharing the Tartan Army has helped change the perception of Boston from being "not fun", he added: "All it took was bringing over thousands of Scots to reignite the city because these guys are incredible."
Sending his plea at the end, the social media user said: "We need them to stay forever. Please never leave us." Many other Boston locals have also shared their views of the Scots in the video's comment section.
- One person wrote: "I'm a bartender in Boston and they are the best people!"
- Another added: "As a born and raised and still living in Boston. It's still boring, it's why we got excited when the Scots came because they know how to party."
- A third person also recalled: "I met the nicest Scottish family at Walmart Friday night. They were so excited to be here. They made eye contact and conversation with those fantastic accents. It was incredible."
Other social media users have also shared the same sentiment. TikTok account titled PurelyBoston said: "We can't let these Scots leave Boston. The vibes that these lads have brought to the city is unmatchable. We must protect these lads at all costs."
Fenway Park Takeover
Meanwhile, Scots were also seen to take over Fenway Park yesterday (June 14) as they spread their support for the Boston Red Sox ahead of their game. One social media user shared their excitement, as they posted: "The Scottish fans are so much fun. They are so nice, I love the accent. We need to have company over more often."
Other fans of the Tartan Army also shared the love, as one person commented: "I want them to stay forever." Meanwhile another joked: "I hope Boston has enough beer to last to Friday."
Fan Zone and Upcoming Matches
The majority of Scots have been celebrating in Boston's Scotland fan zone over the past week, which is located at Boston City Hall Plaza. With the fan zone running for 16 days, it is said to have plenty of large screens so supporters can cheer on the team at their next matches if they didn't buy a ticket.
After Scotland's win against Haiti on June 14, their next game in group C will be against Morocco on Friday, June 19, at the earlier time of 11pm GMT. This will be followed by a match against Brazil at 11pm on Wednesday, June 24.
