Tesco Warns £17M in Clubcard Vouchers Expire This Month
Tesco: £17M Clubcard Vouchers Expire This Month

Tesco has issued a warning that £17 million worth of Clubcard vouchers are set to expire at the end of this month. The supermarket sends out Clubcard vouchers every three months—in February, May, August, and November—and they remain valid for two years.

The vouchers that will soon become worthless were first issued in May 2024 and will expire after 11:59 pm on May 31. Tesco shoppers earn one Clubcard point for every £1 spent in stores, or one point for every two litres of fuel purchased at a Tesco forecourt.

Points can also be collected through Tesco Bank and Tesco Mobile. For instance, customers get five points for every £4 spent using a Clubcard Credit Card at Tesco, or one point for every £8 spent elsewhere. Tesco Mobile customers earn one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on pay monthly bills or top-ups.

A minimum of 150 points is required to obtain a Clubcard voucher, which is worth £1.50 to spend in Tesco. However, shoppers can double or triple the value of their vouchers by using them with Rewards Partners, such as Pizza Express, Alton Towers, or Hotels.com.

If you do not wish to spend your vouchers immediately, there is a way to extend their expiry date. The trick involves using a voucher to make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards webpage; the remaining balance is then credited back to your Clubcard account. It is advisable to spend as little as possible—even just 50p—so that the maximum amount is returned to your account. For example, spending 50p using a £5 Clubcard voucher results in 450 points being returned, worth £4.50. These new vouchers will have an expiry date two years in the future.

Tesco now boasts more than 24 million Clubcard members. Shama Wilson, Tesco Group Membership and Loyalty Director, commented: “This is a big quarter for Clubcard voucher expiry, with more than £17m of vouchers due to expire at the end of May. Using your Clubcard vouchers for discounts on food at one of our restaurant partners, for savings on days out at locations across the UK, towards a railcard, or for savings on hotel bookings are all great ways to save money this half term, so I’d encourage everyone to check their Clubcard account to see if they have any vouchers to use up.”
