Victor Munoz Tells Newcastle He Wants Transfer Clarity Before World Cup
Victor Munoz Seeks Transfer Clarity Before World Cup

Victor Munoz, the Newcastle United transfer target, has instructed his representatives to seek clarity on his future as soon as possible so he can fully concentrate on the World Cup. The Magpies are keen to finalize a deal for the Osasuna winger, but have approached the transfer with caution.

Newcastle's Transfer Plans

Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson is working to bring Munoz to Tyneside, identifying him as the first-choice replacement for Anthony Gordon, who is expected to join Barcelona. Munoz has reportedly expressed his desire to move to St James' Park, but complications remain.

Reports in Spain on Saturday suggested an 'imminent' departure for the Osasuna star, but those close to the Spanish FA's communication team urged focus on the national team's match against Saudi Arabia in the early hours of Monday.

Negotiations and Release Clause

Talks have continued between Osasuna and Real Madrid, who hold a 50-50 split on the player's rights. Newcastle have remained patient after making an offer that would eventually reach Munoz's £34.5m release clause. Real Madrid are not keen on activating the youngster's £6.9m buyback clause, which could allow Newcastle to complete the signing if the La Liga side accepts revised terms.

United are prepared to pay just over £30m for Munoz, with an additional £4.5m in add-ons. This proposal is being considered by Osasuna. Munoz is reportedly satisfied with the wage packet on offer, but Newcastle have been cautious, especially after Brighton accelerated their efforts to sign Zadok Yahonna last weekend.

Osasuna's Stance

It is unclear whether Osasuna believes other clubs are interested in Munoz. However, their sporting director, Braulio Vázquez, has stated that only the full £34.5m release clause will be considered. Vázquez said earlier this year: “We won’t even listen; we’re sticking to the clause. Real Madrid have a three-year buyback clause that has already been agreed upon. What we’re doing is enjoying Victor until the end of the season. Football is very unpredictable.”

Squad Implications

Any potential arrival of Munoz could have consequences for the current squad. Newcastle are open to selling Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, and Joe Willock. With no European football this season, United are considering a slightly trimmed squad. They aim to fill gaps while complying with SCR rules, which caused issues with UEFA last season.
