Newcastle Transfer Window: 6 Deals That Could Happen Today

The summer transfer window officially opens for business today, meaning Newcastle United can now begin their summer dealings in earnest. While deals can technically be struck outside the window—as seen with Anthony Gordon's move to Barcelona and the signing of French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen—players can now be registered. This marks the start of the official wheeling and dealing that will dominate the summer until the window closes on September 1.

Newcastle's Busy Summer Ahead

The Magpies are expected to be active over the next two months, with moves both in and out of St James' Park. Pace is likely to pick up in the coming weeks, even with key targets currently at the World Cup. Here are six deals Newcastle could technically complete today now the window is open.

James Trafford - In

Newcastle are confident of bringing Trafford to St James' Park this summer. The Manchester City shot-stopper is looking for first-team football and is currently on England duty at the World Cup. A medical could be arranged within the camp if a deal is struck while Thomas Tuchel's men are still in action. United held positive talks with Trafford last summer before City activated a buy-back clause in his Burnley contract, but he has been frustrated by a lack of opportunities at the Etihad after the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma. Newcastle have signed Ewen Jaouen as No. 2 but want a first-choice keeper, with Trafford top of their wishlist.

Nick Pope - Out

If Trafford or another first-team keeper arrives, current No. 1 Nick Pope will likely leave. The former Burnley shot-stopper has been a key part of Eddie Howe's side since joining in 2022, but United are looking to the future in the goalkeeping department. Now 34, Pope will attract interest if he leaves Newcastle, with Leeds United and Ipswich Town already credited with interest.

Victor Munoz - In

Munoz is another World Cup star, representing Spain after impressing for Osasuna in La Liga this season. United are keen to bring him to Tyneside as a replacement for Anthony Gordon, though the deal is complicated by Real Madrid still owning 50% of his registration. Newcastle would own 100% if they complete a deal, but the Spanish giants are trying to insert a buyback clause. With a £34.5 million release clause, United are confident of getting a deal done.

Joe Willock - Out

Newcastle will need to move players out for a squad rebuild, and Willock is a name regularly linked with an exit. The former Arsenal midfielder impressed on several occasions last season but is seen as a sellable asset. Willock turns 27 in August, and since he has been at United since 2021, the majority of any sale counts as profit in PSR terms. Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Leeds have all been linked with the left-sided midfielder.

Lamine Camara - In

The Monaco midfielder is high on United's wishlist, though he will cost around £50 million after impressing in Ligue 1 this season. Like Trafford and Munoz, Camara is on World Cup duty with Senegal, but that would not stop a deal being concluded. Newcastle are in the market for a new No. 6 to bolster their midfield, regardless of whether Sandro Tonali leaves, and Monaco are open to selling.

Odysseas Vlachodimos - Out

The Greek goalkeeper has become a forgotten figure on Tyneside after making just one first-team appearance since signing from Nottingham Forest almost two years ago. He spent last season on loan at Sevilla, where he impressed, but the La Liga side are unlikely to afford a permanent move. Newcastle are keen to sell, with a £10 million price tag attracting interest from Panathinaikos in his native Greece.
