The Met Office has confirmed when in June hot weather is likely to return to the UK, with one area set to be particularly warm. While sunny spells are expected across the UK next week, the Met Office also predicts some showers and a risk of thunder during this period. But around the end of June, from June 28, the Met Office predicts largely settled and dry weather conditions across the UK.
South to Experience Highest Temperatures
The south, in particular, is set to experience hot summer weather, with temperatures above normal. While warm conditions are expected across much of the UK, experts believe the south will likely see the highest temperatures.
The Met Office said: “High pressure is expected to lie close to the UK at the start of this period [28 June to 12 July], bringing largely settled and dry conditions. Temperatures will likely be above normal, with the potential for hot conditions to develop, especially in the south.”
July Forecast: Unsettled Weather Possible
July is predicted to bring a shift in high pressure towards the north or west of the UK, increasing the chance of unsettled weather and thunderstorms, particularly in the south. However, the weather is expected to calm down, with temperatures returning closer to seasonal norms, although occasional warm and humid spells remain possible.
Mid-June Outlook: Northwest-Southeast Split
The experts added that during the June 18 to June 27 period, the UK can expect to see “something of a northwest-southeast split in the weather across the UK”. The North and West of the UK are likely to be cloudy during this time, with short periods of rain, some of which may be heavy, and breezy conditions. However, in the South-east region, conditions are predicted to be drier, with a likelihood of high temperatures and humidity, although thunderstorms may break out during this time. Towards the end of this period, the Met Office predicts more settled conditions, with temperatures remaining “above average for most”.
